With a media day in his hometown Usti nad Labem in the Czech Republic, WBO interim super welterweight titleholder Lukas Konecny (48-3, 23 KOs) had his “goodbye” to the media and his supporters before leaving for Kiev, Ukraine to take on reigning WBO Champion Zaurbek Baysangurov (27-1, 20 KOs) on October 6. The Ukrainian was injured in April forcing a postponement. “I’ve waited so long for this chance. I’ve trained hard for so long. Twice, I had fights fall through against world champions and Dzinziruk and Baysangurov. My hour for action has now sounded,” said Lukas Konecny before the fight.

“My preparation was going on very well – I can say ‘super!’ My coach Dirk Dzemski pushes me in a hard but effective way. The sparring was top level, and a good challenge. Weight is fine – so no problems at all! This will be a tough fight. I have a mission and that is not yet fulfilled. On 6 October my long way to destination of my dreams will be complete. I respect my opponent Baysangurov and his strengthes, so I need a good performance in the ring at October 6th. I saw this Baysangurovs fight against Soto live on TV. If he’ll fight against me as he fought in this fight, I’ll beat him ahead of the twelfth round! So, I’m sure to win this bout and I’ll capture his belt! There’ll be only one champion returning to his country and – this will be me with the champion belt to the Czech Republic!”

His coach Dirk Dzemski is convinced about the success of his fighter. “Lukas has grown from fight to fight. He’s a weird fighter. Nobody is able to copy him, nobody is like him. So we’re very excited to go to Kiev and we’re very optimistic to win this fight!”

SES promoter Ulf Steinforth: “It was one of my biggest moments in boxing, so incredible emotional, as Lukas won the champion belt in Brno in April. He worked so hard for his target, he did so great and he always behaves as real champion. So he’ll be the real champion in Kiev. In one sentence: Lukas Konecny is writing history – for SES and for the sports history of the Czech Republic!”

The championship bout Lukas Konecny vs Zaurbek Baysangurov will be broadcast live by the TV station “Das Vierte” for Germany. Beginning of the broadcasting is 8:15pm (CET). Czech TV FANDA (TV Nova Group) will broadcast live in the Czech Republic. Main event starts at 10:00pm (CET)
