Lyell Returns Sept. 29th

Former IBF world title challenger Billy Lyell (24-11) returns to the ring on Saturday September 29th at Aldrich Arena in Maplewood, Minnesota. Lyell has signed to face undefeated local prospect Cerresso Fort (13-0-1) over 10 rounds for the interim NABA super welterweight title. Notably, Lyell’s biggest win came against previously unbeaten, highly ranked John Duddy. Thereafter, Lyell dropped both an IBF title shot to Sebastian Sylvester and then a highly competitive decision to Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. for the WBC Silver Middleweight title. Although mostly untested, the power punching Cerresso Fort has stopped 10 of his 14 opponents while remaining unbeaten. To his credit, Fort defeated previously unbeaten Dave Peterson (13-1) in his last fight this past June. The show is being promoted by Joy Boy Promotions and information and tickets can be obtained by calling (202) 6 JOYBOY or (202)656-9269.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
