Mabait finishes Garcia in one

Photos: Pepe Rodriguez

WBO #10 bantamweight Marvin “Good Boy” Mabait (19-1-2, 13 KOs) needed just 26 seconds to put away Johnny “Laberinto” Garcia (18-5-1, 9 KOs) in a clash scheduled for twelve rounds on Friday night at the popular Salon Jose Cuervo in Mexico City. A grazing left/right combination by the Filipino laid out Garcia for the count as Mabait claimed the vacant WBO Intercontinental belt. Garcia apparently suffered a problem with his left eye. Mabait could be in line to face WBO Champion Tomoki Kameda in December.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
