Golden Boy Promotions Vice President and matchmaker Eric Gomez confirmed to Fightnews.com late last week that welterweight contender Marcos Maidana will take on Keith Thurman on the undercard of the Adrian Broner-Vicente Escobedo world title bout on July 21st. Both bouts will be televised on HBO’s “Boxing After Dark” and will take place at the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, OH. Although it was announced that the Maidana-Thurman fight is a scheduled 10 round bout, Gomez is holding out hope that the bout could possibly be scheduled for 12 rounds. The Argentine-born Maidana (31-3, 28 KOs), who now trains in Oxnard, CA, is coming off a 10 round unanimous decision loss to Devon Alexander on February 25th. This will be a significant step up in class for Thurman (17-0, 16 KOs), who hails from Clearwater, FL. He has won his last six bouts by knockout, but against obscure or mediocre competition.
