Kina Malpaltida does her best to not let the pounding waves knock her down from her surfboard when she surfs at local beaches in Southern California and Peru. The same could be when she laces up the gloves, attempting to bob and weave her way from her opponents’ hooks and crosses. While she enjoys surfing, the thrill of boxing has allowed her to become a world title belt holder.
The popular female fighter Malpartida will defend her super featherweight world title against Sriphrae Nongkipahuyuth on Saturday night at the Coliseo Miguel Grau in Callau, Peru.
The 10 round bout will headline a five-bout card that will be promoted by Sampson Lewkowicz. Also on the card will be unbeaten super bantamweight contender Yenifel Vicente (22-0-2, 14 KOs) taking on Oswaldo Miranda (10-4, 2 KOs) in an eight round bout.
Malpartida (13-3, 3 KOs) successfully defended has world title belt in her last fight in April of 2011. She won a one-sided 10 round unanimous decision over Rhonda Luna. Ironically, Malpartida’s last defeat was to Luna, a six round split decision loss in November of 2008.
Malpartida, who resides in Long Beach, CA, has trained numerous times at the Maywood Boxing Gym in Maywood, alongside fighters such as Daniel Ponce De Leon and Alfredo Angulo.
She is the daughter of surfing champion Oscar Malpartida and famed model Susy Dyson. Saturday night will mark the fourth time in her career that she has fought in her native Peru. She has also fought a number of times in Southern California after having fought in Australia.
Nongkipahuyuth (11-1, 4 KOs) won her last fight on January 23rd, stopping Chor-On Jittigym in the third round of a scheduled six roun bout. Prior to the January bout, the Thai fighter was stopped by Diana Prazak in the third round on August 13th.
