WBA female super featherweight champion Kina Malpartida will defend her belt against Lyndsey Scragg on December 5 at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California. Also featured on the six bout card will be lightweight contender Armando Santa Cruz, along with top prospects Oscar Venegas and Ricky Duenas, and undefeated Peruvian boxers 9-0 Carlos Zambrano and 3-0 Juan Zegarra.
Malpartida traveled from her native Peru in 2006 to made her USA boxing debut in the Battle In The Ballroom that February, and over the next 16 months fought five times at the Irvine Marriott, where she waged wars against Miriam Nakamoto and Ela Nunez, and crafted a 3-2 record. Then Malpartida, who is also a Peru National Surfing Champion took a year off to reflect on her boxing career, and last February 10th at Madison Square Garden she burst back on the boxing scene with a vengeance stopping previously unbeaten Maureen Shea for the vacant WBA belt.
Instantly becoming a national hero in Peru, she returned to Lima and on June 20th before a sold out crowd of 6,000 at the Coliseo Dibo Dammert she stopped Brazilian Halama Dos Santos in the seventh round to successful defend her world title. The fight was shown live to the nation of Peru and garnered a massive 85% share.
The show will also be netcast live on the internet for $10 and people can purchase this netcast by going to www.battleintheballroom.com.
Tickets start at $30 for lower level seats and can be purchased at www.ticketmaster.com. Doors open at 3:30pm and first bout at 4:15pm.
