Manfredo “more than ready for ‘Toro’”

Middleweight contender Peter “The Pride of Providence” Manfredo Jr. has heard it all from Chicago’s Angel “Toro” Hernandez in the press leading up to their vacant IBO Middleweight Title showdown on Saturday, May 22nd at the Mohegan Sun Casino in and it doesn’t faze him.

“I’m glad that he’s excited and coming here to win. I expect nothing less. It’s a great fight for the fans and I knew when I agreed to fight Angel that it would be a war. Truthfully, I can’t wait until May 22nd because he’s going to get the best Peter Manfredo Jr. there is” said Manfredo. “There’s a lot at stake for each of us in a title bout like this.”

“He can say what he wants about me back in Chicago, but when we touch gloves before the fight all that stuff goes out the window. I’m glad he’s confident, but I’m putting in all the work ahead of the fight and I’m more than ready for Toro.”

The 29 year old Manfredo Jr. is wrapping up camp this week with his father Peter Manfredo Sr. in Pawtucket as he prepares to once again fight in front of his legion of fans at the Mohegan Sun Casino in nearby Uncasville, CT.

“It’s great to fight at the Mohegan Sun; they have a terrific venue and its close enough that my fans can come and see me fight. It definitely helps to have the large crowd on your side, especially in a big fight like this” continued Manfredo.

On January 29th at the Mohegan Sun Casino, Manfredo Jr. looked outstanding winning a ten round unanimous decision over Matt Vanda for the NABF Middleweight Title. The win improved his record to 34-6-0 with eighteen knockouts.

Hernandez, a native of San Luis Potosi, Mexico, brings a record of 30-7-0 (17KO’s), into the twelve rounder against Manfredo. In his last two starts during 2009, Hernandez stopped former world title challenger Antwun Echols in the sixth round and won a ten round unanimous decision over James McGirt Jr.
