Manny Pacquiao will not make Shane Mosley quit, but the Filipino star has more than what it takes to put him away for good. This is the belief of Pacquiao’s adviser Mike Koncz, who swears a fighter of Mosley’s caliber is someone to be taken seriously and not to be messed with. “I don’t think Mosley has the word ‘quit’ in his vocabulary,” Koncz told fightnews on Sunday night as Team Pacquiao enters the final two weeks of buildup for the May 7 clash with Mosley at the MGM Grand.
But Pacquiao certainly has what it takes to force the referee to decide to step in to prevent Mosley from getting busted up even more, according to Koncz, who has been with the pound-for-pound king since 2005. Koncz said that even if Mosley is pushing 40, “the age factor won’t be a factor in the early rounds.”
Koncz said Pacquiao is fully aware of Mosley’s glowing reputation and is certainly not looking past him. “Manny and I have talked about Mosley and he knows it’s dangerous to take Mosley for granted.”
Pacquiao is wary of Mosley that he has been earning raves not only from those around him but from trainer Freddie Roach himself. “Manny’s nothing but great during his work in the gym,” said Koncz.
Koncz said Pacquiao will cut down on his sparring rounds this coming week after racking up 12 full rounds in a single day as he tapers off leading to the final 11 or 12 days of training.
