With a press conference held yesterday in Buenos Aires, WBA Interim super lightweight champion Marcos Maidana officially announced his next defense of the title, which will take place on August 28th at the legendary Luna Park stadium against former world king Demarcus “Chop Chop” Corley. After he experienced serious managerial problems, Maidana put the house in order and is ready to go back to the ring, always under Golden Boy Promotions umbrella.

“Everybody knows what the real story was. But I am not here to talk about that, I leave it for my lawyers. I want to talk about my future. And my future is Demarcus Corley, an experienced and good fighter. I already watched some of his fights on videos in order to prepare in the right way. Obviously, I want to knock him out. But it will not be easy,” Maidana said.

“On the other hand, everybody keeps asking me about Bradley. I watched his fight the other day. Because I don’t want anybody to call me a chicken, like Gary Shaw did. Indeed, I heard that Bradley himself called me out after beating Abregu. I am no chicken. If they want to fight me I am here. With all due respect to Corley, I want to knock out Corley, then Bradley,” Maidana added.

“Also, I am tired of Amir Khan playing. First his trainer Freddie Roach said they do not want to face me until next year. Now, he says he will do it next. I am here for him, too. But, I repeat, first is Corley on my mind,” Maidana said.

The Maidana vs. Corley fight will be promoted by Luna Park and Osvaldo Rivero and is promised to be one of the most attractive fights in recent years for Argentinean boxing.
