Mariusz Wach suspended for 12 months

By Przemek Garczarczyk

Thomas Putz, chairman of German Boxing Federation (BDB) released an official letter regarding sanctions against Mariusz Wach (27-1, 15 KO), who was caught using anabolic steroids in his championship fight against Wladimir Klitschko (59-3, 50 KO) in November of 2012. According to the letter, BDB gives Wach and his promotional team the option of a 12 month suspension (starting November 10, 2012) and 5,113 Euro ($6,800) fine donated to the Max Schmeling charitable foundation if they will accept findings of sample A, without requesting a test for sample B. Global Boxing Promotion, who represents the Polish fighter, previously stated, that they will not challenge findings of sample A. It’s unknown if major athletic commissions will follow Wach’s suspension in the United States.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
