Marquez arrest update

According to court and arrest records, the May 6 arrest of Archie Ray Marquez (10-0, 7 KOs), for domestic violence May 6, was not the first for the undefeated Albuquerque prospect. On Feb. 1, Marquez was arrested for domestic battery at Sandia Casino, when a video caught him choking his wife, Jamie Marquez, in an elevator. The violence has been going on for years, according to Jamie, who was granted a restraining order against her husband. Jamie has temporary custody of her and Archie’s two children; she is also planning to file for divorce. “The fans need to know the truth,” she says, pointing to the case of Edwin Valero, who killed himself after he was arrested for the murder of his wife.

As first reported on Fightnews, Marquez was arrested on May 6 for domestic battery, but was released on bail. The Gary Shaw-promoted fighter was scheduled to fight May 14 on ShoBox but pulled out, citing an injury. Another ShoBox card is in the works co-headlining Marquez for June 25 in Albuquerque.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
