San Diego, CA’s “Marvelous” Christopher Martin (26-2-3, 8KOs) took an unpopular unanimous decision to take the win and the WBC USNBC super bantamweight over previous conqueror Jose Angel Beranza (35-26-2, 27KOs) of Mexico City on Friday night at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, California. Beranza was the busier of the two as Martin looked to score his shots including a right hand in the fifth that dropped his opponent. At the end, one judge had it 78-73 while two scored it a very close 76-75 for Martin.
In the semi-main, local favorite Artemio “King” Reyes (19-2, 14KOs) scored an impressive knockout of Rodolfo “Bam Bam” Armenta (12-10-1, 9KOs) of Rio Rico, AZ. After a close first round, Reyes dropped Armenta at the 1:47 mark of the second, scheduled for a welterweight six.
