Universally recognized as the true middleweight champion Sergio ‘Maravilla’ Martinez (49-2-2, 28 KOs) of Argentina, began preparations yesterday, under the guidance of former junior welterweight champion Pablo Sarmiento at the Maravilla Box Boxing Gym in Oxnard, California, following the coast-to-coast media tour announcing the highly anticipated bout against undefeated WBC middleweight title-holder ‘The Son of the Legend’ Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (46-0-1, 32 KOs) which takes place on Saturday, September 15th at Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Martinez vs. Chavez Jr. will be broadcast live on HBO Pay-Per-View and is being presented by Top Rank, Zanfer Promotions and DiBella Entertainment.
In his last outing, on HBO’s ‘World Championship Boxing’, two-division world champion Sergio Martinez stopped top-rated middleweight contender Matthew ‘Mack the Knife’ Macklin (28-4, 19 KOs) of Birmingham, England in the eleventh round after dominated him in an action-filled bout this past March which took place at the Madison Square Garden in New York, New York.
