WBO junior lightweight champion Román “Rocky” Martínez weighed in 135 pounds this afternoon in the first pre-weigh in of the Puerto Rico Boxing Comission. Martínez (24-0-1, 15 KOs) will defend his title versus Ricky Burns in Scotland, September 4. “I’m ready, I always take care of my weight and for this bout I’m training really hard to retain my title, looking for big fights and big places,” said Martínez, who is going to make his second defense of the 130 pounds championship. Martínez will fly to Scotland on August 29 for the final training to the bout against Burns (28-2, 7 KOs).

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
