On Saturday, former WBC heavyweight champion Oleg Maskaev will risk his mandatory challenger status against Rich Boruff (17-2) in the Republic of Mordovia. Oleg was heralded as a hero when he arrived in the country. In December ’08 the WBC ordered that the winner of the Vitali Klitschko-Juan Carlos Gomez bout must fight Oleg Maskaev next, but if Maskaev loses this fight, he loses his mandatory status.
