Unbeaten super lightweight Roberto “Massa” Ortiz (30-0-1, 23 KOs) won a hard fought unanimous decision over Reyes Sanchez (25-5-2, 14 KOs) to successfully defend his WBC Silver belt on Saturday night at the Deportivo Morelos, Delegacion Cuajimalpa in Mexico City. Scores were 114-112, 114-112, 115-112.

In the co-feature, the brother of the legendary Erik “El Terrible” Morales, 22-year-old Ivan “Nino Maravilla” Morales (23-0, 13 KOs) edged Cesar “Gandarita” Gandara (22-4, 9 KOs) over ten rounds. A knockdown scored by Morales in round four was the difference as he prevailed 95-94 on all cards to retain his WBC Silver International super flyweight title.

Also on the card, Christian Camacho, son of legendary Hector “Macho” Camacho, was knocked down in round one and went on to lose in his pro debut as late sub Enrique Angeles won a four round unanimous decision.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
