In an IBF junior featherweight title eliminator Jeffrey Mathebula won on a unanimous 12 rounds points decision over Takalani Ndlovu in a closely fought contest at the Carnival City Gambling Resort in Brakpan on Saturday night. The scores were 116-112 on all three judges scorecards.
In the co-feature Vusi Malinga outscored Filipino Diarh Gabuton over 12 rounds in an IBF bantamweight title eliminator. The scores were 117-111, 116-112 and 115-113.
In a scheduled eight round junior bantamweight bout Zolani Tete knocked out Eduard Penerio from the Philippines at 2:37 into the first round.
In a clash for the vacant South African lightweight title Patrick Malinga and Thompson Mokwana fought to a 12 round draw.
However, according to the current South African Boxing Act unless it has been amended, if a South African championship fight for a vacant title ends in a draw, each judge must nominate a winner and the winner of the bout shall be the boxer nominated as he the winner by the majority vote of the judges.
In the opening bout of the evening Shannon Strydom won on a third round technical knockout over Gideon Mathe. They were fighting at junior welterweight.
