Mathews beats Gethin to regain British belt

British lightweight champion Martin Gethin (24-5-1, 11 KOs) was dethroned by former beltholder Derry Mathews (35-9-2, 19 KOs) on Saturday night at the Olympia in Liverpool, UK. Many close rounds, but in the end it was local favorite Mathews prevailing 117-113, 116-112 on two cards, while Gethin was up 115-114 on the third card.

Middleweight Chris Eubank (15-0, 10 KOs) stopped overmatched Robert Swierzbinski (13-3, 3 KOs) in round seven. Swierzbinski was down seven times.
