Mauricio Sulaiman honored

Report and photos by Pepe Rodriguez/WBC

Well attended and among a great atmosphere, yesterday was opening day for the International Boxing Expo at the Plaza de las Estrellas in Mexico City. WBC president Jose Sulaiman officially opened the event, which was attended by former world champions Pipino Cuevas, Victor Rabanales, Cesar Bazan and reigning WBC light flyweight champion Adrian El “Confessor” Hernandez.

One of the highlights was the unveiling of the “immortalized hands” of Mauricio Sulaiman. His father, Don Jose, was pleasantly surprised when he received a commemorating plaque of his entry into the Guinness Book of Records for his 35 years heading the WBC.

The event is organized by Edgar del Toro and offers several boxing articles, including the colorful posters of the Mexican artist Eduardo de la Cruz.

Today, at 2 pm, WBC world champion Ana Maria La “Guerrera” Torres and three division world champion Juan Manuel “Dinamita” Marquez will be there to immortalize their hands also.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
