Just months removed from his title-winning effort over Mike Ruiz, NY State welterweight champion Daniel Sostre will return to the ring on May 8 when he defends his crown against Plainview, NY contender Tommy Rainone, it was announced today by Ring Promotions President Bob Duffy. The eight-round title contest will headline a seven-bout fight card from the Plattduetsche Park Restaurant in Franklin Square, NY (about 20 miles from downtown Manhattan). “This is as exciting as boxing gets,” says Duffy. “Some of the best young fighters in the NY area will be trading leather on Friday, May 8. This will be a guaranteed sellout, so buy your tickets as soon as possible.”
Sostre (8-3, 3 KO’s), a Vega Baja, Puerto Rico native who now resides in Highland, NY, has won his last six bouts. The 24-year-old seized the vacant NYS Welterweight Championship in his last bout by outworking Mike Ruiz to win a majority decision by the scores of 77-75 (twice) and 76-76.
Rainone (12-2, 4 KO’s) won his first 11 bouts as a professional. The 29-year-old Plainview, Long Island native stopped Santos Galli (TKO 7) in his last bout to earn a shot at the New York State welterweight crown.
Also featured on this talent-laden fight card will be the following:
