In an eagerly anticipated rematch Klaas Mboyane defends his South African bantamweight title against Nkqubela Gwazela at the Orient Theatre in East London on Saturday night. The 31-year-old Gwazela (19-6, 14 KOs) was stopped in the eleventh round when he met Mboyane (13-7-2, 7 KOs) for the vacant title in August last year at the Orient Theatre.
After taking an early lead Gwazela began to tire in the later rounds and let the superbly conditioned Mboyane come back into the fight and stop him at 41seconds into the eleventh round.
In December 2009 Gwazela returned to action after the setback against Mboyane and scored a disputed majority decision over the highly regarded Kenyan Nick Otieno and has vowed to be in top condition against Mboyane.
In an eleven year career Gwazela has held the South African and World Boxing Council flyweight titles and holds a win over the current IBF flyweight champion Moruti Mthalane.
In 2004 Gwazela was stripped of his titles for alleged use of a banned substance.
Mboyane made a successful defence of his title on November 20, 2009 against Cleutus Mbhele.
The tournament is presented by Mzi Mnguni of Eyethu Boxing Promotions.
