Former world title challenger Robert Medley (29-3, 19 KOs) has issued a challenge to fellow Australian 154 pounder Ryan Waters (20-2-2, 12 KOs) and has stated he will fight him for no money just to get him in the ring. “Ryan Waters has said he is the best junior middleweight in Australia, but he will not fight me,” said Medley. “I am prepared to fight him for no money just to get him in the ring. My manager, Bill Treacy, offered Waters AUD $30,000 (USD $27,000) but he has rejected that offer.”
Waters is scheduled to meet former WBA 168 pound champion Anthony Mundine (39-3, 23 KOs) on September 15 at Wollongong Entertainment Center, in a WBA 154 pound elimination bout. Medley extended Anthony Mundine over twelve rounds in January in the former WBA champs first attempt to fight at 154 pounds.
“I gave away weight to Mundine when he came in as a middleweight after he had agreed to weigh in as a junior middleweight. Mundine cannot punch-he did not hurt me in any round and I am confident I would defeat him as a junior middleweight.
Medley’s only other loss came at the hands of former IBF welterweight champion Isaac Hlatswayo in 2008.
