Paul Mendez (14-2-1, 5 KOs) of Salinas, Calif., retained his IBA Continental middleweight title Saturday night via a fifth-round TKO after wearing down Rahman Yusubov (9-12, 7 KOs) of Dallas at the Cache Creek Casino Resort in Brooks, Calif. There were no knockdowns but Yusubov was on the wrong end of a one-sided assault in the scheduled 10-rounder. The Don Chargin and Paco Presents promotion was the first pro boxing card at the Woodland area venue in five years.
Earlier, it was Bruno Escalante by MD-8 over Joseph Rios, junior-bantamweights; Eric Mendez by KO-2 over Ricardo Pinell, junior-middleweights; Andy Vences by UD-4 over Matthew Flores, lightweights; and Darwin Price by UD-4 over Johnny Frazier, junior-welterweights.
