Female world champions Ina Menzer and Susi Kentikian successfully retained their world titles on Saturday night in Rostock, Germany, overcoming strong challenges from Esther Schouten and Julia Sahin. Here;s what they had to say after the fight.

Ina Menzer: ” The fight did not go as well as I had planned. The week was very strenuous and there were many appointments to look after because the interest in this fight was big. I’m not so content with my performance and I couldn’t do everything what we had worked on in sparring and in training. However, I landed the clearer punches.”

Trainer Michael Timm: “Esther was certainly more successful than in the last fight and it was a not so clear match like in January. In the fight Ina adapted and cleverly pulled out the win.”

Esther Schouten: “The fight had much more bang than in January. I thought I would have a points decision. I showed my best side and see myself as the winner – for me it now stands 1:1. My future lies at super-bantamweight. There I am unbeaten and world champion. ”

Trainer Dirk Dzemski: “Esther implemented many of the things we discussed. Both boxers had a super performance and I am especially very proud of Esther. She can go with from this fight with her head high. I likewise thought that Esther won on points. ”

Susi Kentikian: “It was a very hard fight with ten rounds at full power and there was no rest, just many punches and always movement. I threw a lot of punches and Julia was always covering up. I followed my game plan and did what we worked on. I’m happy about having three belts and gladly looking forward to new challenges.”

Trainer Magomed Schaburow: “It was a difficult fight and at the beginning Susi was punching too much when Julia was covering up. From the fourth round on, she boxed more and clearly outboxed Julia.”

Julia Sahin: “One must always do more against a world champion. I didn’t see the scoring that way, but it is what it is. I prepared myself very well, but it wasn’t enough.”

Trainer Mehmet Hendem: “Julia should have gone after her even more after her clear punches. She implemented our strategy and I’m very proud of her. She did great.”

Promoter Dietmar Poszwa: “We’ve experienced two great female boxing matches on the technically highest level. It was nice that we could present these high-class fights here in Rostock before this great audience.”
