Former promoter/boxer Sammy Merza is back in action. The hard hitting puncher from Chicago, Illinois will fight on April 16th in Podgorica, Montenegro. Merza’s boxing story is probably one of the more unique in the history of the sport. The proud Assyrian super middleweight went 14-1 with 11 knockouts in his first fifteen bouts, then hung up the boxing gloves for three years, and threw his hat into the promotional ranks from 2005 to 2008. In October, Merza returned to his knockout ways, destroying Michael Rush in the first round. Now 16-1 Merza’s looks to his next opponent, Thomas Hengstberger who has had 36 professional bouts, and fights out of Austria. If Merza is victorious, he is targeting Andy Lee and John Duddy.
