Mexican Boxing Tournament Returns

By Gabriel F. Cordero

The second edition of the “Quien Pinta para la Corona?” tournament will return with the collaboration of Promociones del Pueblo, the WBC and AAA with support of Grupo Modelo and Comex. “We are ready to start this great boxing tour around Mexico to find new boxing prospects and future champions,” said Promociones del Pueblo President Oswaldo Kuchle. “In 2011 we had 350,000 boxing fans visit the events with their families and this is great. We wait for good fights and fighters in this new edition.”

The new boxing concept was a resounding success last year. The champions of the first edition were Martin Tecuapetla, Martin Caslllas, Sergio Torres, Abdiel Ramirez and Johnny Navarrete. The events also included clinics taught by former boxing world champions and other features centered on professional boxing and wrestling. Once again this year, big cash prizes to the winners and the opportunity to continue their careers with the support of a major promoter and the WBC. The functions will be broadcast live on Cadena Tres.

The start of the tour will be August 25 and 26 in la Nave Lewis del Parque Fundidora in Monterrey, Nuevo León; September 22 and 23 will be in el Domo del Mar en Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche; October 13 and 14 at the Centro de Expositores de Puebla, Puebla; November 10 and 11 at the Expo Guadalajara; the final boxing night on December 8 will be at the Centro Banamex de la Ciudad de México.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
