Nkulueko Mhlongo retained his South African junior middleweight title for the second time when he stopped Tebego Malose in the sixth round at the Nasrec Indoor Arena near Johannesburg over the past weekend. Malose who is rated number at number two by Boxing SA took the fight to the champion in the opening round, but from round two Mhlongo dominated until referee Wally Snowball stopped the fight in the sixth round. Mhlongo improves his record 15-3, 12 KOs and Malose’s reported record drops to 5-2, 4 KOs.
In the main supporting South African welterweight champion Tsiko Mulovhedzi 7-7-3; 3 also retained his title for the second time when he outpointed the number one challenger Ntuthuko Memela 10-1-1; 7 over 12 rounds.
Memela took a count in the fourth round and was deducted a point in round ten for holding and had a further point deducted in the last round for deliberate use of the elbow.
The tournament was promoted by Luvuyo Mngxaso of Brown Bomber Promotions.
