A source informed Fightnews.com about the possibility of a fight between former world champions Cristian Mijares (46-6-2, 21 KOs) and Rafael Marquez (41-7, 37 KOs) in an possible super bantamweight world championship fight, although this is unofficial. The card would take place October 27 at the Nueva Arena Ciudad de Mexico in Mexico City and also feature former world champion Edgar Sosa. Current super bantamweight world champions are Guillermo Rigondeaux (WBA), Abner Mares (WBC), and Nonito Donaire (WBO and IBF) so it’s not clear from where the world title opportunity would come. Recently Marquez was scheduled to fight Wilfredo “Papito” Vazquez Jr in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, but pulled out and was replaced by local prospect Jonathan Oquendo.
