In a clash of former world champions, Cristian Mijares (47-6-2, 21 KOs) scored a ninth round TKO over Rafael Marquez (41-8, 37 KOs) in a featherweight bout on Saturday night, disappointing 10,000+ Marquez fans at the new Arena Mexico in Mexico City. Mijares and Marquez each had their moments in the fight and after eight rounds, the scores were 76-74, 77-74 for Mijares and 76-75 for Marquez. The end came in the ninth when Mijares hurt Marquez with a left to the head, then brutally punished him on the ropes.
In an earlier super flyweight fight, former world champion Edgar Sosa (47-7, 28 KOs) took a ten round majority decision over Myung Ho Lee (15-3, 5 KOs) by scores of 96-94, 96-94, 95-95.
