The proposed all-Colombian clash between Edison Miranda and Eleider Alvarez set for December 14th in Montreal has been scratched. Alvarez (10-0 6KO) a former 2008 Olympian has been on the fast-track since turning pro in 2009 and capturing a North American title in just his seventh fight and was eager for the high profile fight with his fellow countryman and former world title challenger.
Apparently Miranda was having issues with his promoter Warriors Boxing and broke training camp. Yvon Michel, promoter for Alvarez, has been doing his best ever since trying to find a suitable opponent for Alvarez. “We’re looking for a substitute and hoping to find somebody by the weekend,” said Michel who thought he had found a suitable opponent last week in #7 ranked Gregory Soszynski.
The event is headlined by the return of Jean Pascal (26-2-1 16KO) who returns to the ring for the first time in over a year as he faces Aleksy Kuziemski (23-4 7KO). Michel also confirmed officially today that middleweight David Lemieux will face Albert Ayrapetyan (20-3 9KO), a Spanish based fighter who got knocked out by Sergio Martinez in 2005 and retired for seven years before attempting a comeback earlier this year that has seen him go 2-1 to this point. The hope is that the Russian born Ayrapetyan will be the one to supply Lemieux with some rounds as the Martinez fight was the only contest he has ever been stopped in.
Michel also confirmed undefeated welterweight Kevin Bizier (18-0 13KO) will meet Doel Carrasquillo (16-22-1 14KO) who faced off against some quality opposition in the past. Despite the losing record, Carrasquillo surprised a 13-0 Wayland Willingham with a first round KO and stopped 12-0 Denis Douglin in three. The 39 year-old also has wins against a 21-4 Shamone Alvarez and a 13-1-1 Jorge Melendez, both by stoppage. Bizier will be looking to impress as he pencilled in to become the co-feature on a ESPN televised card in February featuring David Lemieux.
Still looking for opponents on the card along with Alvarez are heavyweight Oscar Rivas (11-0 6KO), light-heavyweight Andrew Gardiner (5-0 2KO) and featherweight Marc Pagcaliwangan (1-0).
