In a highly anticipated rematch, IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (33-2, 24 KOs) scored an eighth round KO over arch-rival George Groves (19-2, 15 KOs) before 80,000 fans on Saturday night at Wembley Stadium in London. Tactical early rounds with Groves doing more. Froch started coming on in rounds five and six. Groves rocked Froch in the seventh. Froch knocked Groves on his back in the eighth round with a huge right hand and American referee Charlie Fitch waved it off without finishing a count. Time was 2:34.

In an IBF super middleweight eliminator, James “Chunky” DeGale (19-1, 13 KOs) scored an impressive fourth round TKO over previously unbeaten “Flawless” Brandon Gonzales (18-1-1, 10 KOs). DeGale dropped Gonzales in round four, then got a seemingly quick stoppage with his followup barrage. Time was 2:38.

In an IBF lightweight eliminator, Kevin Mitchell (38-2, 28 KOs) scored a come from behind TKO over previously unbeaten Ghislain Maduma (16-1, 10 KOs). Mitchell scored two knockdowns in the eleventh round to finish a gassed Maduma. The stoppage seemed premature in favor of the British fighter. Time was 2:56. Mitchell made the 135lb division limit at yesterday’s weigh-in, but his overnight weight gain exceeded the IBF limit so he will not get a title shot against IBF lightweight champion Miguel Vasquez.

Former IBF bantamweight champion Jamie McDonnell (24-2-1, 11 KOs) scored a tenth round KO over Tabtimdaeng Na Rachawat (52-3, 34 KOs) to claim the vacant WBA bantamweight belt. McDonnell broke down Rachawat and finished him with a left hook to the head. Time was 2:00.

Unbeaten Olympian gold medalist Anthony Joshua (6-0, 6 KOs) annihilated Matt Legg (7-3, 3 KOs) in 83 seconds of a heavyweight contest.
