Miura retains WBC super featherweight belt

In a war, WBC super featherweight champion Takashi Miura (26-2-2, 19 KOs) retained his title with a unanimous decision over mandatory challenger Sergio “Yeyo” Thompson (31-3, 29 KOs) on Saturday night at the Plaza De Toros in Cancun, Mexico. Miura dropped Thompson with an uppercut in round two and again in round six with a right and a left. Thompson’s best moment came when he floored Miura in round eight. After that, however, the champion pulled away in the late rounds. to win by scores of 113-112, 114-110 and 114-111.

Earlier, female featherweight Celina Salazar (5-1-2, 1 KOs) won a ten round unanimous decision over Ana Julaton (12-4-1, 2 KOs).
