Unbeaten lightweight Carlos Molina will face former two-time world title challenger Angel Chacon on May 20th, manager Frank Espinoza told Fightnews.com. The bout will take place at the Hangar on the grounds of the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa, CA. The bout will be scheduled for eight rounds and will be televised on Telefutura’s “Solo Boxeo Tecate.”
Molina (14-0, 7 KO’s) last fought in November, winning an eight round unanimous decision over John Figueroa at Club Nokia at L.A. Live. The 25 year old Molina, who hails from nearby Rosemead, fought in Telefutura in August, stopping Glenn Gonzales after the fifth round of a scheduled eight round bout.
Chacon (30-9-2, 15 KO’s) has lost his last four bouts in a row and five of his last six. The Puerto Rican Chacon lost his last fight in July, a close eight round unanimous decision to prospect Fernando Torres. The Torres bout was Chacon’s first fight after a three-year hiatus from the ring.
Chacon fought twice for a world title belt in his career. He lost a 12 round unanimous decision to super bantamweight titlist Antonio Cermeno in May of 1997. Almost two years later, Chacon was stopped by Erik Morales in the second round.
Chacon’s last victory was a 10 round unanimous decision over Jaime Orrantia over six years ago.
