IBF jr middleweight champion Carlos Molina (22-5-2, 6 KOs) has informed the media that he’ll make the first defense of his crown against Cornelius “K9” Bundrage (33-5, 19 KOs) on October 11 at the Oasis Arena in Cancun, Mexico. The card will be presented by Leon Margules, Warriors Boxing Promotions and Cornelius Bundrage, K-9 Boxing Global Promotions in association with Pepe Gomez. Golden Boy Promotions will not be promoting the IBF championship event as originally reported.
Molina won the title in September 2013 against Ishe Smith. He was set to defend the belt in March against Jarmall Charlo, but was arrested during fight week on a 2007 warrant for failing to register as a sex offender in Wisconsin. Molina was held for two months before finally being deported to Mexico. 41-year-old former champion and mandatory challenger Bundrage is coming off a January win in an IBF eliminator against Joey “Twinkle Fingers” Hernandez.
