Monshipour TKOs Hughes!

By Christian Chataignier

Former world champion Mahyar Monshipour (30-3-2, 20 KOs) won the second fight of his comeback at bantamweight, beating Sean Hughes (15-9-1, 1 KO) by an eighth round stoppage on Saturday evening at the Palais des Sports in Pau, France. After the first two rounds, Monshipour began his usual torrid pace with a lot of work to the body, breaking down Hughes progressively. The Frenchman connected with beautiful combinations with both hands. Finally, at the beginning of the eighth round, the referee Jerome Lades stepped in to stop the beating.
In another notable fight, super bantamweight Daniel Sassou Kodjo (27-14-4, 7 KOs) dominated Hungarian Zsolt Nagy (12-6, 5 KOs), getting a unanimous decision after ten rounds.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
