Former three-time world champion Fernando “Kochulito” Montiel returns to the ring on November 24 against Giovanni “Ruso” Caro in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, but beyond that fight he’s taking aim at WBC super bantamweight world Abner Mares after seeing Mares’ victory over Anselmo Moreno. “I think I still have the physical ability to face a quality opponent like Abner Mares. After the show on Saturday fans asked me if I wanted to face him and the truth is that I like that a lot. My career is in big time as I never stop training. I love it. I’m currently at the stage of my strong preparation for the fight with Caro and I’ll get to 100% physical and mental preparation. I’ll give a great show to the public not only of Juarez but to all viewers and show that I’m ready to get the fourth world title,” said Montiel, who trains in his family’s gym in Los Mochis, which is run by his father Don Manuel Montiel and his brothers Manuel Jr, Pedro and Eduardo. Montiel will defend his USNBC featherweight crown against Caro in the Gimnasio Municipal Josue Neri Santos.
