Three-time world champion Fernando Montiel (48-4-2, 37 KOs) won a controversial twelve round split decision over former Olympian Arturo Santos (11-2, 4 KOs) before 12,000 boxing fans in the Manuel Bernardo Aguirre Gymnasium UACH in Chihuahua. Scores were 115-113, 115-113 Montiel, 115-113 Santos.
In other action, Carlos Rodriguez (19-11-4, 9 KOs) surprised former world title challenger and WBC silver former world champion Oscar “Ceviche” Ibarra (27-7, 18 KOs) with a ninth round stoppage. Time was 2:08.
Middleweight prospect Marco “Dorado” Reyes (24-1, 21 KOs) won by ten round unanimous decision over Octavio Castro (14-9-1, 9 KOs). Reyes punished Castro throughout the fight.
