In a clash of former world champions, Fernando “Kochulito” Montiel (51-4-2, 38 KOs) scored a hard fought majority decision over Cristobal “Lacandon” Cruz (40-16-3, 24 KOs) on Saturday night in a super featherweight clash at the Palenque in Chiapas, Mexico. Montiel knocked down Cruz in rounds two and four, but that just inspired Cruz to fight even harder for the rest of the fight. Scores were 96-92, 97-91 and 94-94.

In a big upset, Colombian super featherweight Luis Flores (16-1, 14 KOs) knocked out previously unbeaten Miguel Berchelt (21-1, 18 KOs) in the first round.

Super welterweight Ivan “Terrible” Montero (13-0, 6 KOs) scored a one-sided six round unanimous decision over Ivan “Drago” Ramírez (5-3, 2 KOs).

Female flyweight Joselyn Arroyo (16-0, 7 KOs) scored a second round KO over Leidis Martinez (4-4, 3 KOs).

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
