By Rocco Morales at ringside
In a rematch of their June 6th battle, Crystal Morales (8-8-1, 1 KO) avenged her close unanimous decision loss to Rhonda Luna (17-4-2, 2 KOs) with a thrilling ten round split decision victory before a capacity crowd of 1,482 in main event action for Fight Club OC at The Hangar at the OC Fairgrounds. Morales started the fight strong with a clean first round knockdown by way of a left hook that landed flush on Luna who was able to shake it off and continue. Morales and Luna would engage in toe to toe action for the remainder of the bout with Morales winning the majority of the exchanges, many of which brought the crowd to their feet.
Following the final bell, as is Fight Club OC tradition after a tremendous fight, fans showed their appreciation by tossing paper money into the ring to reward the fighters for their spirited fight.
Judges scored the fight 98-91 and 95-94 in favor of Morales with a dissenting and generous score of 96-93 for Luna to give Morales the split decision victory thus earning her the vacant IFBA world lightweight title. FightNews saw the bout at 96-93 in favor of Morales. With the score now tied at 1-1, a trilogy is definitely in order to settle the score.
VICTORIAN DEFEATS CUBIAS
In a scheduled four round junior welterweight bout, Dwain Victorian (2-0) easily outclassed winless Ricardo Cubias (0-5). Cubias, who was won just one round of his sixteen professional rounds, during which time he has been down three times and stopped once, was nothing more than target practice for Victorian. Victorian, while clearly winning every round en route to a shutout 40-36 unanimous decision victory, would have been more impressive if he was able to stop Cubias rather than allowing it to reach the final bell.
HAYS DEFEATS STOWER
In opening action, a scheduled four round junior middleweight bout, John Hays (4-0-1) won a clear cut unanimous decision victory over Donte Spinks (0-3), no known relation to the famed Spinks boxing family as evidenced by his record. There were no knockdowns.
Also on the card were three MMA bouts on what was a beautiful and cool summer night at the partially open air venue that brought out fight fans from Orange County and beyond.
