It appears that veteran blow-by-blow man Steve Albert, who has been at ringside for SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING since 1987, will not return in 2009. Reportedly the new man behind the mike will be Gus Johnson, well known for doing NCAA basketball and NFL football on CBS as well as NBA basketball for the New York Knicks. An official announcement is expected shortly.

Scheduled to see action in the co-feature of the big Margarito-Mosley card on January 24th at Staples Centre in Los Angeles is unbeaten IBF #3/WBO #4/WBC #5/WBA #7 super flyweight Raul Martinez (24-0, 14 KOs) against an opponent to be named. Also on the card is Top Rank’s prized middleweight prospect Matt Korobov (2-0, 2 KOs).
