The topic of a possible legends showdown between Bernard “The Alien” Hopkins and Floyd Mayweather was brought up during Hopkins’ post fight press conference following his win over Karo Murat on Saturday night. “I’m available,” said Hopkins. “You give me to May of 2014 to make 160, that fight is on!” Hopkins also made it clear that he’s not chasing a Mayweather fight.
Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer added “there’s a lot of names out there. I have a plan. I know what I’d like to do, but I’m not going to tell you guys who it’s gonna be because that would be pretty stupid negotiating on my part. I know how to get big fights done, I like to get big fights done because I enjoy it and the fans enjoy it and that’s what gets me going, so I was telling Bernard one thing that is out there is the number 50. With Bernard approaching 50 and Floyd Mayweather approaching 50-0, which is historic as well. We all know Rocky Marciano retired at 49-0, and so Floyd is approaching a 50 number and Floyd is approaching a 50 number and that sort of gets my promotional juices going.”
