More on Banks-Mitchell

By Gary “Digital” Williams

The heavyweight rematch between Detroit, MI’s Johnathon Banks and Brandywine, MD’s Seth “Mayhem” Mitchell slated for Saturday, February 16 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ has been postponed. Banks suffered a thumb injury in sparring. Boxing writer Lem Satterfield first broke the story. Mitchell was looking to avenge his second-round knockout loss to Banks on November 17 at Boardwalk Hall in what was the co-feature. The HBO-televised card will continue with the main event continuing to be Adrian Broner’s WBC lightweight title bout against Gavin Rees. Another contest on the card will move up to the co-feature slot. Mitchell’s manager, Sharif Salim told Fightnews that they are still trying to stay on the card against another high-profile opponent. “We’ve had a great camp and we don’t want all the work Seth has done to go for naught,” Salim said. “Seth is in great shape and we are still looking at possible challenges for February 16.”

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
