More on Klitschko-Povetkin bout

The “Rosneft” OJSC Oil Company and the “MIC” Group of Companies have come together as the organizers of the clash between two super heavyweight Olympic and world boxing champions – Wladimir Klitschko and Аlexander Povetkin. Bout agreements have been approved and executed by the World Boxing Association (“WBA”). The arena, selected to house the event, is one of the largest sports-complexes in Moscow – the “Olimpiyskiy.”

Igor Setchin, President and Chairman of the Executive Board of the “Rosneft” OJSC Oil Company, noted: “We understand the interest and significance given to the event by all boxing fans and supporters, the fight between two legendary athletes, two Olympic champions. This contest between two very strong opponents will not only be a real spectacle to behold, but will also make a great contribution to the development of mass sport and the spirit of sportsmanship for upcoming athletes. So, “Rosneft” keeps up the great tradition of supporting both professional and amateur athletes.”

After extended negotiations on one of the most eagerly awaited world boxing bouts, an agreement have been finally reached. Last week the WBA issued an official resolution approving all the provisions of the agreements.

For more than two months, the organizer of the bout – A. Ryabinsky, negotiated the terms and provisions of the agreements with W. Klitschko’s side. In June of 2013, managers of the fighters arrived at a “common denominator” but the final say as provided for by the regulations, with respect to whether the fight is to take place, was in the hands of the WBA. “The WBA still had to approve the agreements as was the case near the end of June. We acquired the rights to organize this high-profile bout in Panama, at the end of April this year. A lot of time and effort went into this, but now finer details have been dealt with, agreements are signed and we are looking forward to October and the historic fight between these titans of boxing. We would like to thank our German partners for their cooperation and joint efforts. Together we have done monumental work and managed to come to a mutually workable agreement,” – said Andrej Ryabinsky.

Bernd Bonte, general manager of the Klitschko Management Group promotion company, also commented the final results: “I’d like to thank our Russian partners Andrej Ryabinsky and Vladimir Hrunov for putting together this great match-up. We had long and intense negotiations but both sides were willing to find an agreement and now we can together present the fans around the world one of the best fights that can be made. We were all waiting for this bout a long time but finally here we go. Two gold medal winners, two heavyweight champions, two great athletes – a dream fight”.

According to Wladimir Klitschko the fight with Alexander Povetkin will become the greatest heavyweight boxing bout: “I´m very happy that this fight is finally made. The fans around the world are looking forward to this extravaganza between two Olympic Champions. This is the best fight in the heavyweight division and I´m thrilled that it will be staged in Moscow where many Russian and Ukrainian fans have a chance to fill the arena. The atmosphere is going to be thrilling.”

There is not a shadow of a doubt that Moscow will stage a fantastic boxing bout, watched by millions around the world. “Strong title holding opponents already means a lot, but we will have to wait until October to see who will end up victorious,” – said Vladimir Hrunov.

At this point in time the fight between Klitschko and Povetkin is scheduled for October 5th, 2013. The Arena that will bring together these two juggernauts of modern boxing is one of the largest sports-complexes of the city – “Olimpiyskiy”, ready to accommodate tens of thousands of fans of this sport. In conclusion, Andrej Ryabinsky had this to say: “We want this fight to be more than a spectacle, we want the organization to be of the highest quality possible. A huge amount of effort has gone into preparing for this event. I am thrilled that we managed to bring big boxing to Moscow and I hope that Moscow will become one of the centers of global boxing.”
