More on Montreal weigh-ins!

By Dave Spencer, Fightnews Canada

What was good enough for the unification bout between WBO and WBC champions wasn’t good enough for the IBF as a third weigh-in was necessitated Friday in Montreal. The IBF super-middleweight Elimination Fight between Librado Andrade and Vitali Tsypko didn’t take place with the rest of the scheduled Bell Centre card that weighed in Friday at 11am. Instead, the two boxers were sent away so they could come back and weigh-in at 6pm, closer to the scheduled time their scheduled fight. “It was never scheduled with the IBF for this morning,” said IBF spokesperson Mahasi Scott told Fightnews from outside the hotel bar where both fighters eventually made weight. “Had it not been for a flyer that was emailed to my office the day before I arrived here I saw it was for 11am which totally outside the rules. Before I left I thought it was squared away and that it would be for six pm, because they knew the rules.”

Andrade’s trainer Howard Grant of Montreal was none too pleased with the situation, which forced him to attend three weigh-ins on the day. The original one at 11am, a second one at the Casino de Montreal for his fighters Olivier Lontchi and Ahmad Chiekho who fight tomorrow afternoon at 3pm, and the third at a local hotel bar for 6pm. “I’m telling you it’s nuts,” Grant said, “This is all I’ve been doing all day, I was on the road before 8am this morning and I haven’t stopped since.”
