WBO #3 David “Tuaman” Tua (50-3-1, 43 KOs) moved closer to a world title shot when he scored a one-sided twelve round unanimous decision over Nigerian Friday “The 13th” Ahunanya (24-5-3, 13 KOs) on Wednesday to retain the WBO Asia Pacific title at the Trusts Stadium in Auckland. Scores: Brad Vocale 120-108, Mick Heafey 119-109, Bob Gibson 117-111. Tua controlled all the rounds as he boxed aggressively connecting consistently with power shots to the head and body of Ahunanya who never looked hurt during the contest

After the fight Tua said, “I give Friday my full respect. He was better than what I expected. Tonight I am going to Burger King for a hamburger.”

Ahunanya commented, “I was hoping to KO Tua but it never happened. Best of luck to David.”

In the main supporting bout, Australian heavyweight Brett Smith was disqualified by referee Lance Reville in his bout against Israel Garcia at 43 seconds of round three for infringements.

The show was promoted by Tua’s promoter Cedric Kushner (Gotham Promotions) and David Higgins (Duco Events). Televised on Maori Television Network (throughout New Zealand) and Fox Main Event pay-per-view Television Network (throughout Australia).

For 18 years, Fightnews.com® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
