In a huge upset, California flyweight Carina Moreno (23-5, 6 KOs) scored a surprising ten round split decision over former unified world champion Susi Kentikian (29-2, 16 KOs) to claim the vacant WBA female flyweight title on Saturday night at the Burg-Waechter Castello in Dusseldorf, Germany. Moreno won by scores of 96-94, 96-94 on two cards, while Kentikian was up 97-93 on the third card. This makes two straight losses for the “Killer Queen,” who was arguably the pound-for-pound best female fighter a few years back. Moreno entered the ring with losses in four of her last five and was given little chance by the pundits. She proved them wrong.
Earlier tonight cruiserweight Firat Arslan pulled out of his short notice fight against Alex Mogylewski for undisclosed reasons. Arslan had agreed to fight on the Sturm Promotions card to replace former heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev who pulled out of his scheduled fight against Mike Perez earlier this week.
