Morita becomes Lederman

By Joe Koizumi

Japanese veteran judge Ken Morita will become a Japanese version of Harold Lederman in HBO programs for the world title twinbill to be shown by TV Tokyo tonight (Monday). Morita lately served as judge for the Vitali Klitschko-Chris Arreola WBC heavyweight title bout in Los Angeles last September. It is the first attempt to have a scoring judge in a TV boxing program here, since commentators (ex-world champs and/or expert journalists) previously made it a rule to express their opinions on the score after each round. However, there happened some notorious controversies on the differences between the official verdicts and commentators’ private tallies, so almost all our televisions have become reluctant to have commentators clarify their scores to TV viewers. Morita, we hope, will do a good jab as he is as vastly experienced as today’s officials.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
