Mthalane-Nunez clash for IBF title

By Gabriel F. Cordero

Panamanian IBF mandatory challenger Ricardo “El Matematico” Nunez (24-2, 20 KOs) and the South African world champion Moruti Mthalane (28-2, 19 KOs) will collide for the IBF flyweight crown on September 1 at the Arena Roberto Duran in Panama City, Panama. The IBF has already appointed the officials (all from the USA). The referee is Kenny Chevalier and the judges are John Poturaj, Gary Merrit and John Madfis. The supervisor will be the IBF president Daryl People himself.

That same night, former WBA flyweight champion Luis “El Nica” Concepcion (25-3, 20 KOs) will face unbeaten Colombian Pablo Carrillo (9-0-1, 4 KOs). The card is presented by Promociones y Eventos del Istmo.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
