Johnny Muller will make the first defence of his South African light heavyweight title against Roedolf Venter at Emperors Palace in Kempton Park on March 1. The 20-year-old Muller (8-0-2, 6 KOs) from Roodepoort won the vacant title in November last year when he stopped Ronnie Lategan in the first round. The Benoni-based Venter (11-3, 5 KOs) who previously fought as a middleweight made a comeback after four years in the light heavyweight division and in two contests last year was most impressive in scoring wins over Ben Moakamela (ko 5) and Rudi Brewer (tko 5).
Venter is a skillful fighter and possibly has the beating of Muller who will only be having his second fight in the light heavyweight division.
The tournament is promoted by Jeff Ellis of African Ring in conjunction with Golden Gloves Promotions.
