Unbeaten heavyweight Johnny Muller scored a unanimous six round points decision over Mongezi Ndzamela in a mauling and untidy affair at the Wembley Indoor Arena in Johannesburg on Friday night.
Both fighters came out swinging wildly at the first bell with very little attention to the finer points of the game and this was the pattern through the six rounds.
Muller (91.26 kg) was only intent on landing his big right hand against the taller and heavier Ndzamela (117.10 kg) who spent most of the fight ducking and holding his opponent.
Despite repeated warnings from referee Thabo Spampool both fighters continued to push and hold throughout and in round five Ndzamela received a gash above the right eye after a clash of heads.
Judges Boitumelo Madiba and Phillip du Randt scored it 60-54 whilst judge Phumeza Zinakile had it 59-55.
Muller improves his record to 5-0; 4 and Ndzamaela’s reported record drops to 4-5; 3.
